Rory McIlroy, a four-time Major Champion and two-time PGA TOUR Player of the Year, will make his Valspar Championship debut this March.
The 28-year-old from Northern Ireland has firmed up plans for a full Florida Swing schedule that includes his first appearance at the Tampa Bay PGA TOUR event to be held on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor on March 5-11. “We are delighted that Rory has added our tournament to his schedule,” says Tournament Director Tracy West. “He is back in good health and looking to reclaim World Number One status which he has held as recently as 2015.”
McIlroy has won each of the Major Championships except the Masters, with two PGA Championships (2012, 2014), The U.S. Open (2011) and The Open Championship (2012) on a list that totals 13 total PGA TOUR victories. He was the 2016 FedExCup champion and owns four PGA TOUR Playoff event titles, as well as two Wells Fargo Championship victories. He won PGA TOUR Player of the Year Awards in 2012 and 2014.
McIlroy has also been active on the European Tour, leading the Order of Merit three times. He has been a member of the last four European Ryder Cup teams. McIlroy has been first in the Official World Golf Ranking for a total of 95 weeks on seven different occasions between March 4, 2012 and September, 2015. Despite playing a limited schedule due to a back ailment in 2017, he is currently 10th in the OWGR. He has not been outside the OWGR Top 10 since 2010 when he was 20 years old.
