Spieth Further Strengthens Field!
Jordan Spieth, the 21-year-old sensation from Dallas, has joined the burgeoning field for the 2015 Valspar Championship presented by BB&T. Spieth has risen to 9th in the Official World Golf Ranking with torrid play in the last year, including wins at the John Deere Classic, the Emirates Australian Open and the unofficial Hero World Challenge. Since that latest win in December, he has finished in the top seven in three of his last four PGA TOUR starts.
This will be Spieth’s third appearance in the Valspar Championship. He took a huge step towards playing his way onto the PGA TOUR in 2013 when he finished 7th on the Copperhead. He added a 20th-place finish last year.
Other top players who have joined the field this week include Ernie Els who counts the 2012 British Open among his four major championships, Harris English who has won PGA TOUR events in both 2013 and ’14 and Erik Compton, the two-time heart transplant recipient who was runner-up at the 2014 U.S. Open.
With four days left before the tournament’s official commitment deadline (Friday, 5 p.m.), the Valspar Championship is scheduled to feature 7 of the top 15 players in the current Official World Golf Ranking (also Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed) and 19 of the top 50.
