The Valspar Championship presented by BB&T, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County, has presented the keys to a new home to St. Petersburg resident Rolanda Lawrence. Les Muma, General Chairman of the 2016 Valspar Championship, presented the keys to Rolanda during Wednesday’s home dedication ceremony, and Kim Welch, Valspar Vice President of Communications and President of the Valspar Foundation, gave her a symbolic hammer to commemorate the event.
The home in St. Petersburg, is the 337th home constructed by Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas Count and was built over the course of two months by volunteers from the Valspar Championship community, including board members, Copperheads, staff and tournament volunteers. Rolanda also contributed hundreds of hours of sweat equity to help make her dream of owning her own home a reality. A single mom who works as a hospice nursing assistant, Rolanda, her two children and grandchild now have a safe, affordable place to call home.
“For nearly four decades Copperhead Charities has raised money for Tampa Bay-area charities through professional golf,” Muma said. “We have raised more than $34 million in that time, and have touched the lives of many people in need. This is a very special day for our organization, because with this home for the Lawrence family, we contributed in ways beyond a line item on a balance sheet or a signature on a check.”
“Members of our board, other Copperheads, tournament staff and tournament volunteers have all been to Rolanda’s home in the last couple of months to pound some nails and apply some paint,” Muma continued. “Alongside Rolanda and her family, they’ve helped raise the roof, build the walls and paint the interior and exterior. We know how much this means to Rolanda and her family, and we are so grateful to have been a part of it.”
“Valspar is proud to be Habitat’s national paint partner, and we congratulate the Lawrence family as they receive keys to a very special home,” said Kim Welch, Valspar Vice President of Communications and President of the Valspar Foundation. “Painting alongside Rolanda, I saw firsthand a great work ethic and determination to bring her family together in a home built by the help of this great community.”
The build was made possible by a donation from Copperhead Charities as a result of net proceeds from the 2015 Valspar Championship. As with all Habitat for Humanity homes in the U.S., every drop of paint used to help make this house a home, has been donated by Valspar.
