Lee Westwood To Make Valspar Debut!
A new face and some old friends have joined the field for the 2015 Valspar Championship presented by BB&T which will be contested March 12-15 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor.
The newcomer to the Copperhead is Lee Westwood who will be making his Valspar Championship debut. The eight-time member of the European Ryder Cup team was the top-ranked player in the world as recently as 2011 and has been a fixture in the Official World Golf Ranking top 50 for almost all of the last two decades. He recently won for the 40th time as a professional at the 2014 Thailand Open.
The familiar faces are K.J. Choi, Retief Goosen and Padraig Harrington.
Choi and Goosen are the only two-time winners of the Valspar Championship.
Choi won in 2002 and ’06, and also counts the 2011 THE PLAYERS Championship among his eight career PGA TOUR titles. With nearly $2.3 million, the South Korean ranks first in career Valspar Championship earnings.
Goosen, victorious in 2003 and ’09, has won 31 times around the world, including seven triumphs on the PGA TOUR. The native of South Africa counts the 2001 and ’04 U.S. Open among his victories. His 64 in last year’s third round was his best score on the Copperhead.
Harrington, who received a sponsor exemption, holds the Copperhead Course record with his score of 61 in the first round in 2012. Among his 22 worldwide professional victories are a pair of British Opens (2007 and ’08) and the PGA Championship in 2008. He has been a member of six Ryder Cup teams.
