Donald's Win Highlights Successful Transitions Championship
Even as Luke Donald was regaining his status as the world’s top-ranked golfer in a thrilling four-man playoff, the Transitions Championship was further stating its case as one of the PGA TOUR’s top events.
Hitting highs in terms of gallery, strength of field, television ratings and drama, the 2012 event was a special one.
“We had a great week,” says David L. Robbins, general chairman of the Copperheads, the non-profit group that organizes the tournament. “I would like to thank everyone involved starting with the PGA TOUR pros who put on such a great show. The folks at Transitions Optical and Innisbrook Resort, as well as my fellow Copperheads, the PGA TOUR and tournament staff and all of our volunteers and sponsors all made huge contributions. They are a special group of people who all helped make it a wonderful tournament.”
The tournament still has to finalize its charitable contributions, but Robbins is hopeful that number will also increase. “That’s the bottom line for what we do,” he said. “We want to generate as much funding for area charities as we can, and we are optimistic we will exceed last year’s total of $1.9 million.”
