The Valspar Championship is operated by the not-for-profit organization, Copperhead Charities, Inc.
More commonly known as the Copperheads, the organization is headed by a volunteer board of Tampa Bay area community leaders and has operated for over 40 years under various tournament names.
The one constant has been a history of successfully generating nearly $39 million for charities, primarily in the Tampa Bay area, while also staging the amenities for golf fans to view the best in PGA TOUR® competition each March on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida.
With more than 2,000 volunteers who contribute their time and efforts during tournament week, with community-minded sponsors, with the support of tens of thousands of golf fans each year, the tournament has consistently raised substantial sums both through its Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities program and other targeted donations to groups like All Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, The First Tee, the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, Birdies for the Brave and others.
Each of these groups puts the funds raised by the Copperheads to work in a manner tailored to their specific needs. For Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Valspar Championship funds have enabled the installation of a special x-ray machine that can handle even the largest mammals. For the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, affiliation with the Valspar Championship in recent years has substantially expanded their junior golf and after school programs.
The arrival of the Valspar Corporation as title sponsor means that Copperhead Charities is heading to new heights. The 2017 Valspar Championship generated over $2.4 million for charity – and this year promises to be even better.
So while top PGA TOUR golfers compete in March on the Copperhead Course, remember that charity is the ultimate winner.
The Copperheads continue to look for enthusiastic new members. For information on the Copperheads, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (727) 942-5566 for more information.
